Oberon products
are made to last a lifetime. They use the finest, uncoated
leather, tanned for us in the US. Its unsealed surface may
reveal small nicks or scars. These blemishes occur naturally in
all leather.
The following
tips are guides only. Oberon cannot guarantee their success.
General Care:
Try to avoid
leaving your leather journal or leather accessory in direct
sunlight, like the dashboard of your car when it's 99 degrees in
the shade. The color will fade, and along with pen marks you
swore you'd never, whoops, make, these conditions are difficult
to correct. Promise us you will never use paint thinner or other
chemicals to remove marks or spots. They will lighten the color
and make a small spot worse.
Dry or scuffed
appearance:
Small scuffs
can be remedied by simply rubbing them with your finger. A
light, even coating of 'Leather Lotion', a product available in
most shoe repair shops, can be applied. The application of any
cream or oil will darken the color of leather. Never use gooey
stuff like Mink Oil, Neats Foot Oil or oily dressings.
Dirt or food
stains:
So you let your
peanut butter and jelly sandwich drip into the surface of your
leather journal. After a few weeks of pristine care it is bound
to happen. Here are some tips: try removing spots with the light
touch of a clean eraser. Don't go wild. For tough jobs, dampen a
soft cotton cloth with plain water. Rub the spot, then the whole
surface, so that the moisture is consistent. It will look
mottled at first but should dry just fine.
Pewter
buttons:
This tip also
applies to our pewter bookmarks and hair barrettes. Like all
metals, pewter may tarnish over time. The best way to bring back
its original luster is to use an over the counter silver polish.
Buff gently, as our pewter pieces feature very small details and
may be buffed out if you are too vigorous.

Moon-Goddess
Guiding in
your starlit hands the mysterious force of lunar gravity,
unite me with the three phases of life; spring maid of
clouds and air, leaves and buds, summer nymph of earth and

through the underworld procuring the seeds of rebirth.
Moon-goddess, by your tutelage the tides meter my body to
the rhythm of the green planet and your secrets of renewal
are mine.

Forest
The forest is a
refuge. In this realm of green half light one cannot define
distance, only the mystery of the moment, the discovery of what is
near but hidden. In human history the forest has always represented
the psyche, a place of unknown dangers or initiations. It is a safe
and beautiful place for those at ease with solitude and quiet, the
hermit or forest dwellers, friends of creatures great and small.
Images appear on
the front only, with black leather backsides.

Celtic Oak
In an ancient
grove of sacred oaks the Diviners and soothsayers of the
Gods rest beneath shady boughs. Suddenly, a flight of doves
litters the ground with acorns. This is the sign they have
waited for. In the rustling of the leaves and the murmur of
the crystal stream that feeds its roots, the Tree of the
Oracles speaks. Oak, symbol of strength and adversity, human
endurance, courage and truth, we listen for you now.

Hokusai Wave
Our image is
taken from the The Great Wave, a Japanese wood block print
by Hokusai (1760-1849) from a series of work entitled,
Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji. Hokusai Katsushika was a
prolific artist and sensational character influenced by
Dutch and French pastoral landscape painters. Hokusai
discovered copies of European etchings on wrapping papers
used to smuggle goods into Japan during the Shogun period, a
time when western cultural influences were forbidden. A man
of incredible energy, he produced over 30,000 works of art,
the most accomplished series in his seventies and eighties,
moved 93 times in his life and changed his artistic name
more than 30 times. He is best known for being the first to
bring the human story into Japanese art.

Tribal
In the
nineteen nineties tattoo art saw a major resurgence, the
result of youthful interest in the cultural history of
tribal tattoos of indigenous people. Previously, most
Americans were familiar with colorful Japanese styles of
tattooing that influenced the pop art styles of World War II
era tattoos. New interest in one color, ethnic tribal
tattoos, allude to the artistry of tribes as diverse as
Celtic, Maori, Haida, Borneo and Polynesian Marquesan. Our
tattoo reflects the New Zealand Maori tribal aesthetic.

Thistle
Aubrey Beardsley
originally created this thistle design as a bookplate. Known as one
of the most celebrated book and periodical Art Nouveau illustrators
of the Victorian era, Aubrey Beardsley was born in Brighton England
in 1872 in an atmosphere of gentile poverty.
Before the age of ten he had contracted tuberculosis which was the
cause of his premature death at the age of twenty-five. His work was
heavily influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites.
In this illustration, Beardsley created a stylized thistle with
flower heads at the very top. Leaves and tendrils descend to the
plant at the base.

Celtic Hounds
No recorded history
attaches particular meaning to Celtic knot work aside from the
universal symbolism of the endless wheel, unending line or
continuation and inter connectedness of life. However, it is
generally agreed that spirals reflect themes of consciousness and
balance, interlacing the unending cycle of life and death, and key
or maze patterns the twists and turns of life’s journey.
Animal symbolism is more straightforward:
Hounds or dogs represent loyalty, dragon represents rebirth and
birds purity or nobility and the boar ferocity or strength.

every person is written. Cosmic Tree that unites the three
worlds of air, earth and water, Tree of Sweet Dew, Tree Of
The Solar Eagle, all traditions honor you.
