Star Child
is an inspirational force that seems to channel a consciousness
rooted within the plant kingdom. It's message holds a key
for unlocking those parts of the mind that allows us to connect
with the spiritual aspects of nature. Star Child conveys
this earth wisdom through the dimension of sensual experience
which is accessible to all. By experiencing this level
of awareness and tuning into the realm of nature spirits we are
reminded that all the Earth is sacred and that we must take care
of her as she takes care of us. For if we forget our spiritual
source we all forget our humanity and become part of a mechanistic
consciousness that considers nature as a mere source of materials,
there to be exploited and to satisfy nothing but greed.
In ancient times people were aware of the interrelationships between
the sacred and the mundane plains of existence. They communed
with the plant spirits who were regarded as divine messengers
of the Gods. However, during the Dark Ages much of this
knowledge was lost, the old Gods were cast beyond the reaches
of experience and matter was declared dead. The spirit/matter
dichotomy evolved and people lost their path as caretakers of
the Earth. The consequences of this change in attitude can
be seen all around with the daunting environmental problems we
are facing today.
Star Child's
products are based on the philosophies of our ancestral wisdom.
We believe that by working with the spiritual forces inherent
in nature we can offer tools that may provide a gateway to the
devic consciousness and thus help people to connect with their
own spiritual source. Spirituality cannot be bought in a
bottle, and our products are not intended as magical quick-fixes.
Rather, they are meant as keys for experiencing the divine through
the realm of the senses. By bridging the spirit/matter split
we are working towards wholeness and healing of people and planet.
May
Star Child's message help to open the channels of perception so
that the realm of the Sacred may once again come within the reaches
of experience.

Aromatherapy
Oils and Incense |
|
Aromatic
herbal infusions and fragrant oils have played an integral role
in religious ceremonies and magical rituals for thousands of
years. In ancient times the subtle scents of plants were regarded
as the manifest aspect of their etheric souls. They were thought
to purify the hearts and minds of people and to open the doors
of perception.
Special
aromatic oil blends, known as anointing salves, were used for
purification and consecration rites prior to performing ceremonies
or entering a sacred space. Some herbs were sacred to particular
Gods and Goddesses or used to invoke a particular kind of energy
(eg. to attract rain or stimulate fertility etc.).
Star
Child Space Aromas follow in these ancient traditions. Our Space
Aromas are created using only pure essential oils and absolutes,
potentised with our unique magical herbal infusions. Each aroma
is designed with a specific purpose, astrological energy or divinity
in mind, though the versatility of their application is only limited
by your imagination.

Magical
Star
Child Magical Space Aromas are designed with specific purposes in
mind. They contain oils traditionally associated with the various
magical uses and are potentised with corresponding magical herbal
infusions. However, Space Aromas are not intended to be magical
quick fixes for life’s problems. Herbs and oils may assist in clearing
energy blockages and help you attune to the purpose for which you
are using them. When that work has been done it is still up to you
to follow the flow of energy with appropriate action and make the
most of the opportunities that may arise. |

Star
Child Space Aromas are ideal to use with an oil burner or vapouriser
as magical fragrances for meditation and healing practices, ceremonial
or ritual purposes, or simply to scent your home with these beautiful
fragrances. Fill the water-well with warm water and add a few
drops of oil. Light the candle underneath and enjoy the fragrance
filling the space. Don’t allow the water well to dry out completely
and make sure the candle is blown out afterwards.
To cleanse a space, create a particular atmosphere or invite specific
energies into your home, a few drops of an appropriate oil blend
can be added to a bowl of water. Agitate the water to disperse
the oil and use for sprinkling around the house after cleaning.
Space Aromas can be diluted in a nut/seed base oil or Space
Base oil for anointment in a ritual or ceremonial context or
to use as bath or massage oils. Add about 5 drops to 1 tablespoon
of base oil. They can also be used for anointing candles in
candle burning rituals. For this purpose they can be used undiluted.

PROSPERITY
Everything manifested within the universe is based on the flow of
cosmic energy, and in metaphysical terms giving is receiving. However,
due to a multitude of factors on spiritual, physical and emotional
levels, this flow of energy often becomes blocked, diverted or dissipated
within individual lives. Our prosperity oil is designed to help
gain an understanding of this energy flow and to help resolve any
issues that block the connection to it. (Sorry, this is not a ‘get
rich quick’ remedy... though you could try rubbing the bottle for
a genie.)

whose images re-occur in various guises in many religious mythologies.
These archetypes are deeply rooted within the significant role in
shaping the human experience of the sacred. By focusing on these
archetypal deities we can get in touch with the parts of consciousness
they represent and thus directly access their rich symbolic meaning.
Understanding the role they play on an inner level may heal some
of the disparities between the various parts of our conscious and
unconscious selves. Thus, to honour such archetypes within is to
bridge the worlds and walk with the Gods and Goddesses. As Above

ISIS
Isis, the Egyptian primordial Mother Goddess, represents the origin
of life itself. She is the creatress who was there before time and
space. She is the source who gave birth to everything - including
the Sun and all the other Gods. Her mysteries are so sacred and
so unfathomable that they cannot be taught or captured in writing.
She only reveals herself to the most earnest seekers who must keep
a vow of silence. To the profane mind her mysteries are beyond comprehension.
Connecting to this archetype is to go beyond personal ego limitations
and to touch upon the very source of life itself.

This range of Space Aromas is created to honour the eight great
Celtic Festivals that mark the cycles of the Sun through the seasons.
The festivals are divided into Quarter days, better known as the
Solstices and Equinoxes, and the Cross-Quarter days, Beltain, Lughnasad,
Samhain and Imbolc, which mark the mid-point between the Equinoxes
and Solstices. Mythologically, the cycle of these festivals tells

and can be found in many parts of the world. |

Burning
fragrant woods, barks, resins and gums as an offering to the
Gods is perhaps one of the most ancient ritualised spiritual
practices. Our ancestors regarded fire as a sacred medium of
transformation - an inexplicable phenomenon that has the power
to change solid matter and release the etheric essences contained
within as smoke. Scent, the most volatile and immaterial aspect
of matter, was regarded as the food of the Gods.
As
spiritual beings, the Gods cannot partake of the physical aspects
of sacrificial offerings, but instead gorge themselves on the
etheric aspects that rise to heaven in the form of smoke. Fragrant
resins, barks and flowers offered to the Gods as incense was regarded
as their sacred ambrosia. It acts as a vehicle for prayers, which
by power of sheer delight finds access to the hearts and graces
of the Gods. Keeping the Gods happy of course was the fundamental
purpose of ritual and of primary concern of humankind, who are
dependant on their blessings.
Scent
powerfully influences the mind and can lift the spirit beyond
the level of material concerns to the realm of the sacred. Burning
incense is still widely practiced for spiritual purposes in
most religions.
Star
Child Incense is prepared in accordance with these ancient concepts
and traditions. They contain all natural substances, such as barks,
herbs, flowers, seeds, resins, gums, pure essential oils and absolutes,
each appropriate according to their associated deities and magical
properties. To add an extra magical dimension to our potent blends
certain herbs are collected from various sacred sites in accordance
with the cycles of the sun and moon.
Star
Child Incense can be used for all kinds of meditations, ritual
and ceremonial purposes, or simply for pleasure. Traditionally,
incense plays an important role in purification rites, commonly
referred to as “smudging”. The smoke is used to “wash” away
negative energies and thought forms, thus cleansing and enhancing
the atmosphere of any given space. Similarly it is used to purify
the hearts and minds of people as they prepare themselves to
partake in sacred ceremonies and rituals.

Planetary
In
ancient times the seven known planets were perceived as a pantheon
of deities. These Gods governed all aspects of life on Earth throughout
all realms of existence. In the days of antiquity, people implored
the various Gods to help them in their many tasks and manifest
their dreams and wishes. Over the centuries these divine beings
have become more and more internalised. Nowadays they are perceived
as inner drives and archetypes, reflecting universal forces. Whether
regarded as divine entities or psychological drives - they still
have a strong impact on human consciousness and continue to affect
our lives on personal as well as transpersonal levels. Planetary
incenses can be burned to get in touch with the various archetypal
energies in order to gain a better understanding of the dynamic
forces they represent. As above - so below; as within - so without.
They can be used for meditation or ritual to invoke and contemplate
these cosmic energies. They may also be used to attune to the
planetary energies associated with the different days of the week.

shorter as the Sun’s energy is dying. Like the plants who now have
to die in order to sustain us through the lifeless season, the Sun
will die as well - to be reborn in the following year. Such are
the laws of the eternal cycle of life and death. This is a time
of thanksgiving for the fruits of the harvest and the power of the
Sun.

SAMHAIN
31st October
Samhain is the name of the old pagan seasonal festival that celebrates
the descent of the Life-force deep into the Earth-womb where it
regenerates to be reborn in the following spring. It marks the beginning
of the dark season - a time to remember the dead and to reflect
upon the nature of birth, death and rebirth as an eternal cycle.
It is also a time to review the gains and losses of the previous
year, to go within and to face the inner shadow ...if necessary.

Elements
In metaphysical terms, all aspects of physically manifested reality
are formed from a combination of the four elements, fire, water,
air and earth. It must be kept in mind that these elements are
spiritual rather than physical forces. They represent the etheric
quality of fire, water, earth and air, which also correspond to
the four directions, the seasons and the cardinal points of the
year. In Christian symbolism the elements have become identified
with the archangels, Uriel, Raphael, Michael and Gabriel. Star
Child Incense is prepared in accordance with ancient concepts
and traditions. They contain all natural substances, such as barks,
herbs, flowers, seeds, resins, gums, pure essential oils and absolutes,
each appropriate according to their associated deities and magical
properties. To add an extra magical dimension to our potent blends
certain herbs are collected from various sacred sites in accordance
with the cycles of the sun and moon.

is as yet undifferentiated potential. It is the etheric thread that
unifies everything in the manifest universe and holds it all together.

AVALON
This incense has been inspired by the myths and legends surrounding
the mystical Isle of Avalon. It is said that the veils between the
worlds are thin in this part of the world. Stories are told of travellers
who lost their way in the mists and suddenly found themselves amongst
the merry Fairy-folk of Avalon. Seduced by their kind hosts, they
danced and played away the night, laughing and drinking with the
Fairies and having a jolly good time. The following morn’, however,
they found themselves back on the old dusty road. But what only
seemed a day and a night in Fairy-land lasted a year and a day in
our world and many a traveller never reached their destination in
time... These days, the Isle of Avalon has sunk deeper and deeper
into the mists and ordinary mortals rarely pass through the veils
anymore - but once in a while, especially at the full of the moon,

by. This incense can be burned to invoke the magic of Avalon, or

HOLY THORN This

known as ‘the Christ’). They were on their way to Glastonbury to do
some trade and to discuss certain issues with the local Druids. When
they reached Wearyall Hill, Joseph struck his staff into the ground
as he marvelled at the beautiful town below. Immediately the staff

Wisdom Perfumes are a unique range of natural perfumes inspired

to ancient lore, trees are inhabited by angelic beings known
as Dryads, who embody their souls. These beings are the keepers
of the wisdom of Mother Earth. Each type of tree speaks through
their own particular Dryad and each holds the key to their own
special aspect of this arcane earth wisdom. Throughout history
and across all cultures people have always communed with tree
spirits and those who are able to “listen” may learn much from
them.
Tree
Wisdom Perfumes are created in honour of the ancient Celtic
tree lore and the Devic beings who speak to us. Each Perfume
blend contains pure essential oils and absolutes as well as
a magical infusion containing barks, leaves and flowers of its
associated sacred tree. May every one of them provide a key

BIRCH
- Beth
24th December - 20th January
Known as the Lady of the Woods, this graceful tree is surprisingly
hardy and bold. It is one of the first trees to spring into flower
and produce new leaves after the long, cold winters of the north.
As a pioneer tree, it is often found in boggy and uninhabitable
places where it prepares the ground for more sensitive and demanding
plants to follow. Thus, its spiritual qualities are associated with
fertility, purification and courage. Birch signifies inner strength
and daring needed to break new ground and go where no-one has gone
before. In the Celtic Tree Calendar it signifies the first month
after the Winter Solstice and the rebirth of the sun that brings
renewed fertility to the land.
USE FOR

ROWAN

21st January - 17th February
This small, but striking tree commonly grows in unlikely places,
such as exposed hillsides and on seemingly bare rocks, where it
stubbornly defies the odds. Rowan is said to be sacred to Thor,
the God of Lightening, who will rarely strike it. Country-folk often
plant it near farms or hang some branches above the doorways as
a means of protection. Its common name, Quickbeam, refers to its
magical properties of transmitting powers of fertility. Its powerful
inherent life-force is not only eminent in the tree’s quick growth
and development, but is also magically signified by the white flowers
and red berries that represent the sacred colours of blood and seed.
In the Celtic Tree Calendar Rowan stands for the second month of

ASH - Nion
18th February - 17th March
The Ash is a formidable and majestic tree and among the largest
of the Northern Hemisphere. Norse Mythology tells of an Ash tree
known as Yggdrasil which stands at the centre of the Universe and
represents the sacred World-Tree. Yggdrasil forms the bridge between
the three worlds - the world of the Gods, the world of humans and
the Underworld where the souls of the dead reside. It is sacred
to Odin, who learned the secrets of the runes by hanging from Yggdrasil’s
branches for 9 days and nights in his shamanic initiation rite.
Thus, the Ash came to represent not only divination and wisdom,
but also transformation and spiritual rebirth. Furthermore, it is
associated with the sea and is said to protect against drowning.
Magic wands were fashioned from its wood. Druids as well as witches
are thought to have used Ash-wands in their weather magic either
to disperse rain or to brew up storms. The Ash tree signifies the
third month of the Celtic Tree Calendar - the months of storms,
floods and rains that bestow rejuvenation to the land.

ALDER - Fearn
18th March - 14th April
Like Birches, Alders are pioneer trees of damp and waterlogged areas.
Their water resistant wood used to be much employed in setting the
foundations of houses, especially those built near lakes and rivers.
Because of their apparent power to dry out such boggy places Alders
were considered to have an affinity with the element of fire. By
the token of sympathetic magic, Alder, when hung in the house and
stables, is said to protect against fires. Its preference for growing
in spooky and often remote, lonely areas linked this tree to the
kingdom of the fairies and the Otherworld. In Celtic Mythology,
Alder is sacred to Bran, a God of divination who is also the patron
god of bards, poets and musicians. His sacred tree was considered
to have oracular powers and provide a gateway to the Otherworld.
In the Celtic Tree Calendar Alder signifies the 4th month, representing
the change-over stage from the cold and wet season to the dry and
warm time of the year.
USE FOR
Protection against fire, spiritual journeys to the Otherworld, divination,
poetry, music and oracular powers.

WILLOW - Saille
15th April - 12th May
Willows are widely-known and well-respected trees all over Europe.
They are a common sight in wetlands and on riverbanks and have a
reputation for their affinity with the element of water. Accordingly,
their wood is deemed as far too soft and susceptible to rot to be
of any use for building purposes. However, the thin, bendy branches
known as Withies, are still much in demand and even regularly cultivated
for use in all kinds of Wattlework. Willows are sacred to the Triple
Moon Goddess and her mystery of regeneration was revealed by the
apparently immortal life-force that flows through the tree. Even
cut and seemingly dead branches will come back to life when planted
into the Earth. This is the esoteric reason why sacrifices to the
Great Goddess were generally offered in wicker baskets - the life-force
of the tree was thought to be transferred to the offerings and thus
assure their rebirth in the realm of Hecate. Willow is regarded
as a tree of magic and enchantment, of purification and resurrection.
In the Celtic Tree Calendar it signifies the 5th month of the year,
a month deemed particularly holy to the Goddess, whose life-giving
powers are now becoming increasingly evident in all realms of nature.
USE FOR
Invoking the Triple Moon Goddess - birth, death, rebirth, flow of
life, magic, enchantment, purification, sacrifice, resurrection.

BLACKTHORN

Blackthorn may be small and its flowers may appear fragile,
but it proves to be a surprisingly tough and resilient little tree.
Early in the year, when the land is still beaten by storms and frost,
it puts out its tender white flowers. They are an image of fragility
- yet the Blackthorn’s dark appearance and long sharp thorns are
quite forbidding. Traditionally this tree has a dark reputation
and was associated with the Crone aspect of the Goddess. Esoterically
though, Blackthorn is thought to have the power of reaching into
the world of shadows and bringing to the surface what is normally
hidden or suppressed. Though it may seem like the ‘thorn in the
side’, it merely acts as a reminder of the dual aspects of everything
that is. The beautiful and the ugly - the good and the bad, are
all aspects of the same thing. Bringing such issues into the light
of consciousness provides an opportunity to deal with them. Blackthorn
does not have a month of its own in the Celtic Tree Calendar, but
is thought to share the month with Willow. It is also often regarded
as the sister tree of Whitethorn or Hawthorn, which signifies the
following month.
USE FOR
Acknowledging the shadow, transformation, selfless love, courage
to face the negative and to deal with it, acceptance.

HAWTHORN - Uath
13th May - 9th June
Hawthorn is a small, thorny tree often found in hedgerows. Many
species of wild-life find protection amongst its thorny branches
and gnarly roots. Hawthorn represents a boundary between the cultivated
and the wild lands. Its white blossom exudes a distinct and almost
narcotic scent that penetrates the spring air. (Some have even described
it as erotic!) Hawthorn is another tree marked by the sacred colours,
red and white. In spring, the tree looks quite similar to Blackthorn,
with its white blossom and thorny branches, but in autumn only the
Hawthorn carries bunches of red berries. In the Celtic Tree Calendar,
the Hawthorn month is a time of purification and abstinence. Traditionally
it was associated with the Goddess Cardea who is the soul of the
world and represents the seasonal return of the Earth’s fruitfulness.
Later this symbolism was transferred to the Goddess Flora and in
place of the chaste purification rites, the fruitfulness of the
Earth was celebrated with orgiastic feasts and ecstatic rituals.

USE FOR
Purification, abstinence, sexual promiscuity, ecstasy, fruitfulness,
prosperity.

OAK
- Duir
10th June - 7th July
The Oak is perhaps the most magnificent and regal tree of the Northern
Hemisphere. Sturdy and strong they are often found as landmarks, guarding
the parish boundaries. In times gone by they were the focal point
in village life. Under their branches meetings were held, courts ruled,
oaths were sworn and all was silently witnessed by the Oak-king. Oaks
are sacred to Zeus/ Jupiter, who is thought to choose these trees
as his favourite dwelling place on Earth. One of the most ancient
oracular cults of antiquity took place at the sacred Oak of Dodona.
Jupiter/Zeus himself was believed to announce his prophecies in the
whispers of the branches. In the Celtic Tree Calendar the Oak month
is the midpoint of the year and marks the climax of the sun. Duir
stands for ‘door’ and represents the threshold between the seasons.
The Midsummer-night’s sacred fire was stacked with oak logs that signified
the dying sun. The Oak king’s sacrifice is not a loss though, but
rather an offering: in his wake the Earth will bear the fruits which
will not only sustain us through the dark half of the year, but also
bring the seeds that are the promise of next season’s growth.
USE FOR
Justice, trust, honour, oracle, threshold, rites of passage, transcendence,
sacrifice, wisdom, selfless giving, open hearted generosity.

HOLLY
- Tinne
8th July - 4th August
Everybody knows the branches and red berries of this well-loved tree
as a popular Christmas decoration. In the British Isles, Holly is
the only native non-coniferous tree that does not shed its leaves
in the autumn. Instead, its white flowers turn into scarlet berries
in December, in the midst of winter. Thus Holly is regarded as a symbol
of the everlasting life-force, vital even through the apparently dead
winter months. Mythologically it represents the twin of the Oak-king,
who presides over the dark half of the year. Medieval Christians identified
Holly with Christ and so regarded it as equally sacred. Holly is said
to bring protection and good luck. For this reason sprigs of it are
often hung above doorways, and trees are frequently planted near houses,
or as landmarks along the edges of fields. In the Celtic Tree Calendar
it signifies the 8th month, the time of the barley harvest, signifying
growth, riches and increase.
USE FOR
Life-force, prosperity, growth, riches, protection, good luck, blessings.

HAZEL - Coll
5th August - 1st September
The familiar Hazel-bush hardly gives the impression of a powerful
sacred tree, yet its magical associations are extremely ancient and
very significant indeed. It flowers early in the year - a strong indication
of a vibrant life force and Hazel was often associated with fertility
rituals at Beltain. The potent Hazel-rods were used to transfer their
power of fertility to animals, fruit trees and women. Of course, the
tree’s apparent fruitfulness was also indicated by their suggestive
nuts. Hazel twigs were commonly used for divination. The practice
known as dowsing was especially employed for detecting hidden sources
of water, subtle energies and hidden treasures. Esoterically, Hazelnuts
are regarded as a metaphor for wisdom and knowledge represented by
a concise, concentrated kernel within a hard shell. It is often said
that the sacred snake (also an image of wisdom) has its nest at the
root of a Hazel bush. Hazel signifies the 9th month in the Celtic
Tree Calendar, a place it rightly deserves. Nine is the sacred number
of the Goddess (3 x 3) and Hazel bears fruit after 9 years, from when
on it gives freely of its fruits of wisdom.
USE FOR Fertility, wisdom, knowledge, divination.

APPLE
-
Quert
Apple-trees may seem humble, but they are a delight and a blessing
in many ways. The fragrant white flowers in the spring grace the landscape
and give the impression of the Goddess cladding herself in new flowery
garments, signalling her return to the upper world. In autumn the
profusion of its fruits are a symbol of her bountiful gifts. No other
tree is as sacred to the Goddess as the Apple tree. The five pointed
star at the core of its fruit is her signature. Esoterically, the
Apple-tree stands for spiritual integrity, love and wisdom. It symbolises
transcendence of duality and wisdom: understanding, attained not through
blind faith, but through inner knowing from experience - one has to
bite into the apple of knowledge in order to know its taste... The
gift bestowed upon those who ask the right questions with pure intent
is bliss and immortality of the soul - thus the Goddess’s own paradise
was also known as the land of the Blessed, the Isle of Avalon - or
Island of the Apple-trees... Apple, though considered a most sacred
tree, does not have its own month in the Celtic Tree Calendar. It
shares the time of the year with Hazel, when both trees are in fruit
and bestow their gifts to the people.
USE FOR
Spiritual integrity, spiritual love, inner purity, wisdom and understanding
from experience, transcendence of duality, immortality of the soul.

VINE
- Muin
2nd September - 29th September
Vine is a gift of the Gods. Its sweet fruits are not only delicious
and refreshing, but also easily ferment and transform into wine. Wine,
and especially red wine, has been used as a sacrament for thousands
of years. Originally a sacred food of the God Dionysos, it has even
become associated with Jesus and Christianity. To this day, at every
Holy Mass red wine is transformed into the blood of Christ, symbolising
the power of immortality and rejuvenation. Whilst Vine has never been
native in England the Celts were by no means unfamiliar with the plant.
Since it does not grow well in Britain though, Bramble has been accepted
as a substitute. Its habit is somewhat similar, and though its fruits
are quite different, they can also be transformed into a heady, dark
coloured, sweet wine. Vine symbolises the harvest season, the rich
gifts of Mother Earth and the gift of sacred intoxication.
USE FOR
Transcendence, ecstasy, divine revelation, shamanic journeys, immortality,
rejuvenation.

IVY
- Gort
30th September - 27th October
Ivy is a climbing plant that stays evergreen throughout the year and
bears flowers when most other plants have fruited and are well on
the way of retreat. It is often found growing in dark, shady places,
on graves and on dead and dying trees, yet itself stays ever green.
Thus, Ivy is strongly associated with the Underworld which is also
symbolically implied by its spiralling growing habit. It is sacred
to Dionysos and to Osiris, both Deities of resurrection and eternal
life-force. Ivy is toxic, a property which at one time may have played
a role in the preparation of the potent ritual brews used in the ecstatic
rites of Dionysos.
USE FOR
Coming to terms with death, transformation, resurrection, eternal
life-force, journeys to the Otherworld.

REED - Ngetal
28th October - 24th November
The reeds or rushes, as they are also known, are close relatives of
the grasses. Whilst they don’t exactly represent impressive trees,
the historic associations point to interesting and significant uses
of these humble plants. In Egypt, the durable, strong fibres were
employed for many important practical uses. Not only paper but also
cloth and sails were fashioned from them, whilst the hollow stalks
could be bundled and used for thatching for building light structures
such as effigies of the gods. Reeds grow in muddy waters, and symbolically
represent a link between the Underworld and the Upperworld. They were
used as strewing herbs to lay out in temples to purify the sacred
space with their sweet fragrance. Rich in volatile oils, they are
valued for their medicinal properties as well as for their aphrodisiac
and narcotic actions which provide the key to their sacred significance.
Reed signifies the 12th month of the Celtic Tree Calendar, the time
of the year when the priestess ventures into the Underworld to be
transformed in the realm of Hades and partake of its riches.

Riches of the Underworld, transcendence, sexual union, revelation,
prosperity, regeneration of life, immortality.

ELDER - Ruis
25th November - 22nd December
A low growing bush, Elder is a familiar hedgerow plant throughout
England. Its branches are bendy and its wood is fairly light weight,
making it inappropriate for building purposes. Folklore knows this
bush as a ‘tree of the witches’ giving a strong indication of its
Pre-Christian sacredness to the White Goddess. Elder bushes are
often planted around the house and farm for protection against evil
spirits. However, it is considered unlucky to bring fresh sprigs
into the house, or Goddess forbid, burn any of her wood. Elder has
very important healing properties which has earned it the reputation
of being ‘the medicine chest of the country people’. Elder flowers
have a strong narcotic scent and the uncooked berries are said to
be slightly poisonous. Both can be made into powerful sacred wines
that may be used in rituals of initiation into the mysteries of
the Goddess.

MISTLETOE
23rd December
The Mistletoe is an epiphyte that loves to grow on Oak and Apple trees.
It is known to have been one of the most sacred plants of the Druids.
Its magical powers are implied in the very fact that it does not have
a direct connection with the Earth, but exists between Heaven and
Earth, so to speak. The berries ripen in midwinter. Their white translucence
is reminiscent of the Moon, yet, when culled (traditionally with a
golden sickle), they turn golden like the Sun. Thus, on the day after
the Winter Solstice the Mistletoe represents the unification of the
male and female principles that join the lunar and solar cycles of
the year. Because of this dual nature, Mistletoe has the power of
transmutation. It is considered a protector against all evil spirits
and a magical remedy that can change bad energy into good, hate into
love and darkness into light.
USE FOR
Transmutation, union of the opposites, transcendence of duality, rebirth,
protection, blessing.

SILVER FIR - Ailim
Rebirth of the light (just after Winter Solstice)
These evergreen pillars of life and abundance are familiar to everyone.
The ancient custom of bringing a Pine or Fir tree into the house and
home at Christmas to decorate with candlelights and goodies is still
commonly practiced throughout Europe. Magically the significance of
this symbolism is evident in the inherent life-force that keeps these
trees green through the winter. It is also apparent in the abundance
of Pine cones beset with a multitude of seeds that signify prosperity,
fertility and potential growth. The tree is sacred to Artemis, the
Goddess who guards over child-birth. It is no coincidence that these
trees have become associated with our celebrations of the birth of
Christ. The purifying fragrance of its oils and resin dispels all
negative energies and offers an appropriate welcome for the rebirth
of the Sun-God.

GORSE

21st March Spring Equinox
Gorse may be a humble shrub, but the profusion of its bright yellow
blossom is a welcome sight in those early days of spring, when most
other flowers are still in winter hiding. In fact, Gorse flowers themselves
may be considered as reminiscent of the first bright rays of the sun
in spring. They grace the still wintery countryside, even in exposed
and barren places, seeming like an early promise of the Sun’s glory
yet to come. Its delightful fragrant nectar provides a welcome early
nourishment for busy spring-time bees, who are considered sacred animals
of the Goddess. In days gone by, fires of Gorsebrush were lit on the
hills at Equinox to celebrate the return of the Sun.

HEATHER
- Ura
21st June - Summer Solstice
Heather, the most familiar plant of mountains, heath and moors, is
a hardy little shrub that grows even in the most exposed places. Heather
withstands harsh conditions but seems to effortlessly regenerate itself
after cutting or grazing. Thus, symbolically it signifies resilience
and subtle beauty. Its sweet nectar is a favourite food for bees in
the summer, and its delicate flowers are said to be an essential ingredient
of an extremely ancient recipe for highland ale, which once upon a
time, may well have been used as a sacramental beverage at midsummer
feasts. Heather is sacred to the Goddess of love and a sprig of it
is a token of her blessing. The white variety is considered particularly
lucky, especially for lovers and newly-weds and in some areas a sprig
of it is still added to the bridal bouquet, used to decorate the wedding
cake or put beneath the wedding sheets.

WHITE POPLAR - Eadha

White Poplars are beautiful and graceful trees. Their leaves have
a silvery glint and are most noticeable in the autumn, when they rustle
their whispers to the wind. A fitting image for a tree associated
with ripe old age, maturity and the declining power of the sun. It
signifies wisdom and understanding, foresight and prophecy and indicates
the golden rewards of age. The tree is associated with Persephone’s
journey into the Underworld and thus symbolises regeneration and rebirth.
Poplar heralds a message of hope by reminding us that Hades is but

YEW
- Idho
21st December - Winter Solstice
Yews are very special trees, with a very special significance. They
are among the most ancient of all the trees in northern Europe. Yews
may live to 2000 years and sometimes longer which has earned them
a reputation of eternal life. They signify the never-ending cycle
of death, regeneration and rebirth. Yews are said to foster souls
after death, providing nurture through the period of rest until they
are ready to join the dance of life once more. This is the reason
why Yews are often found in churchyards, growing near sacred springs
or wells: in time the waters of life will carry the souls to be reborn
once again. Thus Yews, which are sometimes considered trees of death,
esoterically signify a peaceful rest in the land of the blessed, regeneration,
rebirth and eternal life. Their serene and timeless energy calms and
soothes the anguishes and turmoil of life and allows transcendental
wisdom to surface.
USE FOR
Wisdom, understanding, inner peace, death, rebirth, nurture of souls.

at sacred sites from all over the world. The infusions are magically
prepared in accordance with the cardinal times of the year and

the respective blends and thus provide a reference to their magical
uses. The list of ingredients allocated to each product provides
an indication of the main ingredients. Additionally, certain precious
or rare oils may also be included.

Fragrant
oil blends have long been used in conjunction with massage, both
for therapeutic purposes and for pure pleasure. Massage is awonderful
way of releasing physical aches and mental or emotional stress.
Allowing oneself to give and receive in this way harmonises male
and female energies, thus centering both within the body. Touch
is the language of the body-mind and the simplest, most direct
form of communication available to all. Star Child Massage Oils
are specially designed formulas aimed at enhancing the sensual
enjoyment of massage through the added dimension of scent. Potentised
with magical herbal infusions they not only soothe tense muscles,
but nurture an overall sense of physical, emotional and spiritual
well-being. Supplied in amber glass bottles with explanatory leaflet.
For best results prepare a space by creating a relaxed atmosphere.
Make sure the room is warm and comfortable. Have ample sheets
and towels available so the person receiving the massage does
not get cold and tense during the session. Before you start spend
some moments attuning to each other. When you are ready, rub some
oil into your palms to harmonise with its energy and adjust it
to body temperature. Use more oil as it is gradually absorbed
by the skin. Stay calm and centered whilst letting your sensitivity
and intuition guide your touch. Never break the body contact and
let your movements flow smoothly and with even pressure. Visualise
stroking away and soothing tension locked in the muscles and joints.
When you have finished spend some more time in attunement before
breaking the body contact. Remove excess oil with a towel. Wash
you hands with cold flowing water to clear any energies you may
have picked up and to help ground yourself after completion.

The
tradition of adding herbal and fragrant oil blends to baths, not
just for pleasure, but also as rituals of spiritual purification,
must be as old as the invention of baths themselves. In ancient
times the body was regarded as a temple, so to care for it, cleanse
it and grace it with sweet smelling fragrances was believed to
invite the divine spirit into ones own being. Honouring the Gods
and Goddesses in this way was considered a means of allowing the
spiritual and physical aspects of life to unite within ones own
bodily temple. This Pre-Christian concept has survived throughout
the ages and even nowadays finds its echo in such Christian notions
as: “Cleanliness is next to Godliness!”
Add one tablespoon of bath-oil to your bath water once the tub
is full. Volatile oils evaporate easily at high temperatures,
thus adding the oil with the running water risks losing some of
its fragrance and effectiveness. Agitate the water to disperse
the oil before entering the bath tub. This is important to achieve
an even distribution of oil as we do not add any chemical additives
such as dispersing agents to our blends. As you enjoy the relaxing
fragrance of the oils, visualise purification on every level,
mental, emotional, spiritual and physical. Candle-light may enhance
the experience and assist relaxation. On leaving the bathtub take
care not to slip (into an unrelaxed mode).
